(IraqiNews.com) A source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday, that it summoned the Egyptian ambassador in Baghdad and handed him a protest note over al-Azhar’s remarks against the Volunteer Fighters (al-Hashd al-Sha’bi forces).

The source said in an interview with IraqiNews.com, “The Foreign Ministry summoned the Egyptian ambassador in Baghdad, Ahmed Darwish.”

The source, who requested anonymity, added, “The ministry handed a note to the ambassador in protest against the recent Azhar abusive remarks towards the Volunteer Fighters.”

Al-Azhar expressed its deep concern about the slaughter and the unlawfully assaults perpetrated by al-Hashd al-Sha’bi forces allied with the Iraqi Army against the peaceful Iraqi citizens who do not belong to ISIS or any other terrorist organization.

This statement received local replies before the senate and government officials who deemed al-Azhar’s information improper.
