Iraqi refugees reach 2.5 mln, says MP
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday, an MP of the committee of Human Rights in the Iraqi Parliament revealed, that the number of Iraqi refugees who fled from war zones has reached 2,450,000 people.
Member of the Supreme Committee for Human Rights in the Parliament, MP Masrour Aswad, stated in an interview for al-Sumaria televesion channel, “The committee has urged the government to allocate an amount of money for the refugees,” pointing out that, “The number of refugees was only around 700,000 people before Mosul city was taken by ISIS in June 2014. However, now it has reached 2,450,000 refugees, with no strategy to contain them or provide for them suitable living conditions.”
“The issue turned to a humanitarian tragedy seeing about 35 percent of refugees live in camps, 12 percent in mosques and husseiniyat, 8 percent in ruins, 15 percent rent places on their own, 18 percent live with their relatives,” he added.
