9 British medical students headed to Syria

(IraqiNews.com) Nine British medical students have traveled to Syria and are believed to be working in hospitals controlled by ISIS militants, according to the Observer newspaper.

A group of four women and five men, who all have Sudanese roots, crossed the border to Syria last week, apparently keeping their plans secret from their families until only before entering Syria, when one of them informed her family where she is, said the story published by the Observer.

The newspaper quoted Turkish opposition politician Mehmet Ali Ediboglu, who met some of the students’ relatives who have made repeated appeals for them to return home.“We all assume that they are in Tal-Abyad now, which is under ISIS control. The conflict out there is fierce, so medical help must be needed,” Ediboglu told the Observer.

“They have been cheated, brainwashed. That is what I, and their relatives, think.”
