(Iraqinews.com) Baghdad – On Saturday, Turkey accused Iraq of blocking the international efforts to fight ISIS by submitting a complaint to the Security Council about the presence of Turkish troops in Iraqi territory.

The Turkish envoy to the United Nations Halit Cevik said in a statement followed by IraqiNews.com, “Additional Turkish troops were sent to Bashiqa camp to provide protection for Turkish advisors due to increased threats,” adding that, “Ankara has taken procedures to prevent the aggravation of the situation and there was no intention of violating the sovereignty of Iraq.”

Cevik continued, “We have tried to solve the issue through bilateral channels, and discussing this case in various international forums will impede the solidarity of the international community against ISIS,” indicating that “All efforts should be focused on the war against ISIS elements.”
