 UN reveals over 55000 Iraqis killed, wounded in less than 2 years

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – On Tuesday, United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) revealed, that 55,047 thousand Iraqi civilians were either killed or wounded in less than two years, in addition to the displacement of about 3.2 million Iraqis during the same period, while accused the ISIS organization of practicing systematic and widespread violence against civilians, as well as abusing international human rights and humanitarian law.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights report stated, “From January 2014 to October 2015, UNAMI/OHCHR recorded at least 55,047 civilian casualties as a result of the conflict, with 18,802 people killed and 36,245 wounded,” pointing out that, “From January 2014 to September 2015, a total of 3,206,736 persons became internally displaced in Iraq, including more than 1 million school age girls and boys.”

The report added, “During the reporting period, from May to October 2015, ongoing violence caused at least 10,911 casualties, killing about 3,855 persons and wounding 7,056 others,” indicating that, “The actual numbers might be higher.”
