(IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday, U.S. officials said, that a senior leader in the so-called ISIS who was described by the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) as ISIS minister of war was likely killed in an air strike in Syria.

Abu Omar al-Shishani, also known as Omar the Chechen, ranked among the most wanted militants under a U.S. reward program that offered up to $5 million for information to help remove him from the battlefield.

Shishani who was born in 1986 in Georgia, which was then still part of the Soviet Union, had a reputation as a close military adviser to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was relying heavily on Shishani.

U.S. official said, “The air strike was carried out by warplanes and targeted al-Shishani near Shaddadi city in Syria.”
