Deir Ezzor (Syria News) The Syrian army forces and their allied militias carried out, on Tuesday, an offensive to retake the Islamic State-held neighborhoods in the city of Deir Ezzor, sources told Qasioun News.

The sources informed that the Syrian army managed to recapture several areas in the Islamic State-held neighborhoods in Deir Ezzor, including Port Said Street, Rasafa and Omal neighborhoods, amid heavy artillery shelling.

Earlier today, Syrian army imposed a complete siege on the IS-held areas in Deir Ezzor and isolated the Islamic State militants from their other areas in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor.

It is noteworthy that Syrian army was able to enter Deir Ezzor, last September, backed by Russian Air Force, after launching an extensive offensive that extended from the city of Sukhna, in eastern Homs to Deir Ezzor Province.
