Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi President Barham Salih welcomed on Wednesday a decision taken by the Sultanate of Oman to reopen the Omani Embassy in Baghdad.

The president made the remarks during a meeting at As Salam Palace in Baghdad with visiting Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi and the accompanying delegation, the Iraqi presidency said in a press statement.

“Iraq, with its Arab depth and Islamic neighbors, has the priority to attain regional stability in a manner that serves interests of the region’s countries,” Salih pointed out.

He further hailed an Omani decision to reopen its embassy in Baghdad as “a positive step” that would contribute to deepening cooperation ties and bringing about prosperity of the two peoples.

“Baghdad and Muscat can play an important and influential role” in solving the regional issues, he said.

The Omani minister, meanwhile, said that his visit to Iraq is of great importance to consolidate bilateral relations and unify their stances regarding the regional issues.

He further reiterated his country’s support for Iraq in all fields.
