Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iranian media reported that the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Esmail Qaani, arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday to meet with senior Iraqi officials.

Iraqi sources mentioned that Qaani held a meeting with the Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid upon his arrival to Baghdad on Tuesday morning, noting that he is supposed to meet with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani at a later time.

The meeting comes a day after the Iranian Revolutionary Guards launched a missile attack targeting the headquarters of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) in Koya town of Erbil governorate.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards accused the Kurdish officials of failing to confront the practices of what it called ‘separatist terrorist groups,’ considering that their inaction is sometimes intentional.

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the Iranian missile and drone attacks on areas of Kurdistan region, describing it as a hostile approach.

“This unilateral and hostile approach will not help in finding solutions leading to stability. Our stances previously indicated the danger of such a blatant aggression on Iraq’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens. This attack reflects the continuous threat that will cause confusion and increase tension in the region,” a statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry mentioned.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will take high-level diplomatic measures in this regard, and will do what it takes to preserve Iraq’s sovereignty in a manner that enhances the safety of its people,” the statement added.
