Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The 34th session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union started on Saturday in Baghdad, under the title ‘Arab support to enhance Iraq’s stability and sovereignty.’

“Welcome to Baghdad,” the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, told participants in the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union conference via Twitter.

The Media Center of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union mentioned in a statement that the conference, which will last until February 26, aims to mobilize Arab support for Iraq.

The statement added that the conference is to support the stability and security of Iraq, preserve its sovereignty, and restore its historical status, as Iraq’s security and stability are important for the Arab national security.

The Secretary-General of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, Fayez Shawabkeh, announced earlier that 18 countries, including 14 Speakers of Parliament and four representatives of the Speaker of Parliament, would participate in the conference.

Experts see that holding the Arab Parliamentary Conference in Baghdad is a strong indication of Iraq’s return to its Arab surroundings, which comes only a few weeks after Basra successfully hosted the Arab Gulf Cup for football, which means, according to them, that Iraq is now qualified to host various Arab forums and events, in a way that enhances its presence in the Arab world.
