 Iraqi artist Yas Khidr dies at the age of 85

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi artist and singer Yas Khidr has died at the age of 85 in Baghdad, Iraq.

The late Yas Khidr was mourned by the Iraqi Artists Syndicate after passing away in Baghdad from sickness. In a statement, the Iraqi Artists Syndicate stated: “With great sadness and sorrow, the Iraqi Artists Union mourns the passing of the Voice of the Earth artist Yas Khidr, who passed away this evening in Baghdad as a result of an incurable disease.”

On Saturday at noon, the burial service for the late Yas Khidr will get under way from the Iraqi Artists Syndicate headquarters.

Born in 1938, Yas Khidr is regarded as a very strong pillar of authentic Iraqi music. He was particularly fond of singing traditional Iraqi songs, which helped his songs gain great fame outside of Iraq including Syria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE.

Iraqi cultural figures have had a difficult week with the passing of poet Karim Al-Iraqi and now Khidr.
