NATO Mission in Iraq to handle additional advisory tasks
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The scope of NATO Mission Iraq (NMI) will include advisory and capacity-building activities in support of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and Federal Police Command, according to a statement issued by NMI.
The statement illustrated that the decision was taken last Thursday by the North Atlantic Council following a request from the Iraqi authorities.
This additional activity will be conducted in complementarity with the support offered by other nations and international organizations, as mentioned in the statement.
The statement stressed that all of NATO’s activities are carried out at Iraq’s request and in full respect of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Since NMI was established in 2018, it has advised Iraqi defense and security officials in the Ministry of Defense, the Office of the National Security Advisor, the Prime Minister’s National Operations Center, and now also the Ministry of Interior and Federal Police Command.
The statement added that the mission also advises Iraq’s professional military education institutions in the greater Baghdad area.
