$1.5 million project in Duhuk

DUHUK / IraqiNews.com: A local company started implementing a service project in Aqara district, Duhuk, with a total cost of $1.5 million within projects to develop provinces, the mayor of the district said on Wednesday. “Arzan Company started today implementing the project to maintain and pave the main road Duhuk-Aqra in the district, southeast of Duhuk, with a total cost of 790 billion dinars ($1.5 million) within projects to develop provinces,” Jahour Ali told IraqiNews.com. He expressed hope that the project could be finished in 7 months. Also spelled Duhok, Dohuk Dehok or Dahok; it is a city in the far northern part of Iraq to the borders with Turkey . It has about 500,000 inhabitants, mostly consisting of Kurds and Assyrians. According to some sources, the name “Duhuk” comes from Kurmanji Kurdish meaning “small village”. Circled by mountains along the Tigris river, Duhuk, the third province with Iraq ‘s Kurdistan region, has a growing tourist industry. Its population grew extremely since the 1990s as the rural population moved to the cities.
