Baghdad

2008 projects must be implemented on time

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi minister of finance said that all 2008 projects must be carried out on time in order to benefit from their budget allocations. “Yesterday, Minister Baqir Jabr al-Zubeidi received Wassit Governor Lateef al-Tarfa and stressed the necessity of getting all projects done on schedule…,” according to a ministerial statement received by IraqiNews.com. The minister noted that it is significant to attract investment to Wassit province by encouraging international companies to set up major projects, including the construction of modern hospitals, roads and water networks. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province. SS (P)/SR 1
