Abtan calls to oblige Iraqi ministries to buy local production of cement
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Economy and Investment parliamentary Committee MP Abdul Hussein Abtan revealed that “Large amounts of cement material produced by the southern cement industry worth 50 billion IQD are hoarded in stores.”
He said in a joint press conference with a number of MPs for Muthanna province held today that “There is a big problem affecting cement plants in Iraq, particularly in the Middle Euphrates region as the Southern General Company for manufacturing cement suffers from overcrowding of more than 50 billion IQD from the cement material in the warehouses,” noting that “The products of this company is characterized by high quality and meeting the international specifications which is sold for IQD 100,000 per ton.”
He added that “Unfortunately, cement is imported from different countries at the expense of Iraqi production of cement although the federal budget for 2012 confirmed the need to buy goods manufactured locally from the private sector in case they could not get it after seven days of the request.”
Abtan urged the Iraqi Government to “Oblige the Iraqi Ministries and contracting companies to buy the local production of Cement.”
