Cornerstone laid to develop residential neighborhood in Kut
WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: The Wassit governor on Monday laid the cornerstone of a project to develop a residential neighborhood in the province, a media source said. “Latief Hamad Tarfa laid the cornerstone to develop Mahalat 312 neighborhood in al-Damouk region in central Kut at a total cost of 7.954 billion dinars,” the source told IraqiNews.com. “The governor opened also two elementary schools; one in al-Damouk region and the other in al-Jihad neighborhood in western Kut,” he added. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province. SH (P)/SR 1
