IMF appropriates $47m for 500 housing units in Halabja

SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: The International Monetary Fund okayed the appropriation of $47 million to build 500 housing units in Halabja district, the Kurdish province of Sulaimaniya, according to a local official on Sunday. “Halabja, (83 km) southeastern Sulaimaniya, has allocated 300 donums of land for the project to be carried out by the Iraqi government and financed by the IMF,” Khidr Kareem, the director of the Halabja municipality, told IraqiNews.com news agency. The Iraqi donum equals 2,000 square meters. “Different designs will be endorsed in the construction of these housing units,” said Kareem, adding the sum of $30,000 will be appropriated for each unit. He did not say when the project is supposed to be implemented. Sulaimaniya, one of the three autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan region provinces, lies 364 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
