Iraq demands Turkey, Iran to preserve Iraq’s water shares

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Water Resources Ministry on Wednesday demanded Turkey and Iran to preserve Iraq’s water shares. “Iraq currently faces a lack of water,” said a release issued by the Ministry and received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “The Ministry demands the two neighbors, Turkey and Iran, to provide Iraq with the required share of water according to international treaties,” it added. “Despite all the Iraqi governmental efforts and Turkish promises, Turkey so far has not released enough amounts of water,” it explained. “The same applies to Iran too,” it proceeded. The Ministry warned of a “possible crisis” in the coming years in case that neighboring countries did not provide Iraq with enough water. MH (P)/ SH 1
