Iraq is not bankrupt, says Finance Minister
(IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday, Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari announced, that the Iraq’s financial situation will be discussed with the International Monetary Fund, noting that no final decision has been made yet on the request for emergency aid, while emphasized that Iraq is not bankrupt.
Reuters quoted Zebari as saying during a press conference held today on the sidelines of the annual joint meeting of Arab financial institutions in Kuwait, “We are talking with the International Monetary Fund because they have aid for emergencies, but we have not yet decided if we will resort to that.”
Zebari added, “We have a lot of assets that we can use, and Iraq is not bankrupt, but liquidity is the problem.”
