Karbala Council wants to postpone airport

KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: The Karbala Provincial Council has decided to contact the central government in Baghdad to postpone signing a contract with a foreign firm to execute the designs of an airport in Karbala city. The Council’s head, Mohammed Hameed al-Mousawi, said on Monday that the federal government was supposed to consult the Council in this regard. “We have a lot to say regarding the project’s economic worthiness,” al-Mousawi said in a press conference today attended by Iraqi News. He said that the contract, if it would be signed in its current form, will make it hard to execute the project. “It was supposed to deal with the project as one dispatch, not to divide it in terms of design, execution, and operation,” al-Mousawi said. He said that a procedure like this would make investors uninterested in the project. The holy city of Karbala lies 110 km southwest of Baghdad. MH (P)/SR 1
