Samawa chamber of commerce wants frozen funds released

MUTHANNA / IraqiNews.com: Head of the Samawa chamber of commerce on Saturday asked Premier Nouri al-Maliki to intervene to release the chamber’s funds frozen at two local banks due to a decree issued by the dissolved Iraqi Governing Council (IGC). “The chamber is in need for those funds that have been frozen for nearly four years,” Kareem Mohammed Ali told IraqiNews.com. “I ask Premier Nouri al-Maliki to intervene so that we can exploit those funds,” he said. “We have $28.5 thousand at al-Rasheed bank and $2.144 thousand at Dar El-Salam bank,” he added. “Elections of the chamber’s administration took place by the end of 2006 in a legal way and the results were approved, but yet the funds are still frozen,” he noted. The Samawa chamber of commerce was established on October 10, 1970. Samawa, the capital city of al-Muthanna province, lies 280 km south of Baghdad . MH (P)/AmR 1
