Soon: Thermal station in Wassit
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: In an attempt to improve electricity supplies in Wassit, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity has contracted Chinese companies to install a thermal station in the province. “During a meeting between the electricity minister and the Chinese chargé d’affaires, the two sides agreed to initiate work on al-Zabidiya electricity station within the coming few days,” an official spokesperson for the ministry, Aziz Sultan, told IraqiNews.com. The completion period of the project is three years, Sultan added. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province. SS (P) 1
