Water flow into Euphrates River increases

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi minister of water resources on Thursday said that there has been an increase in water supplies from Turkey over the past few days. “The water flow into the Euphrates River in Haseeba area has reached 430 cubic meters/second, in comparison to 300 cubic meters/second last week,” a ministry statement received by Iraqi News quoted Minister Abdullateef Jamal Rasheed as saying. “The increase in water levels came following a tripartite meeting between Iraq, Turkey and Syria in the Turkish capital Ankara on September 3,” the statement added. The Iraqi government had called on Turkey to increase Iraq’s quota of water to 500 cubic meters/ second and urged Iran to allow its rivers to flow unimpeded into Iraq’s central and southern areas.
