Iraqi Legislature describes draft General Amnesty Law as “threat for Iraq’s National security.”
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Legislature of Iraq’s State of Law Coalition , led by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Sami al-Askari, has described the draft General Amnesty Law, discussed by the Parliament on Sunday, as “threat to the country’s national security, encouragement for corruption, protection of terrorists, killers and thieves!” “The current Law does not differ at all from the previous Law, according to which corruptors, criminals and leaders of terrorist groups, have been released,” Askari told reporters, warning that “the legislation of the new Law represents a threat for the national security, encouragement of corruption, protection of terrorists, killers and thieves.” Askari said that the “new Law is the second of its kind, passed by the Iraqi Parliament, as the Parliament had passed an Amnesty Law in its previous session.” The Parliament’s Legislative Committee had ended on Sunday the 1 st reading of the draft General Amnesty Law, aimed at granting opportunities for Iraqis, who had committed some crimes, to reform themselves and join social life, stemming from the spirit of pardoning and reform for those, who had missed the right course, to enjoy the amnesty, in order to enable all Iraqis to share in building their Homeland.
