Sculptors commemorate call to arms against Islamic State with gun monument
Najaf (IraqiNews.com) Sculptors from the province of Najaf are commemorating an historic call for “jihad” against Islamic State militants with what they describe as the biggest gun-shaped monument.
The monument, whose makers plan to erect in a square at the district of Adala, marks an historic sermon by Iraq’s most senior Shia cleric, Ali al-Sistani, in 2014, in which he made a call upon Iraq’s shia for a holy armed war against Islamic State militants who took over large areas of the country in that year.
Nageh Abu Ghoneim, an artist working on the piece, said his work is made of iron, and said he hopes it will highlighted in the Guinness Records.
