1509 suspects referred to specialized courts on corruption charges
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Commission of Integrity referred, during first quarter of 2013, (1509) defendants charged with corruption, to the concerned courts.
A statement by the CoI reported that “The legal directorate of the Commission stated in a detailed report that those suspects were referred on 1001 financial and administrative corruption cases related to projects which its total expenses exceeded IQD 112, 290, 000,” noting “The suspects are from Baghdad, Diwaniya, Nineveh, Basra, Babel, Najaf, Diyala, Dhi Qar, Salah il-Din, Kirkuk, Karbala, Wasit, Maysan, Muthanna, and Anbar provinces.”
“The CoI courts issued verdicts against 14 convicts charged with committing corruption through their positions at the state departments,” the statement added.
“The legal directorate of the Commission had issued in last week a list of names of 27 other employees who were served punishments of imprisonment and fines over corruption issues,” according to the statement .
