(IraqiNews.com) On Monday, the president of the Iraqi government, Haider al-Abadi announced that corruption is comparable to the terror threat, promising to fight this lesion, even if it costs him his life.

Abadi was handed over presidential responsibility last September, after the advance of the so-called Islamic State (IS)  in large areas of northern Iraq. He pledged to fight corruption that spread during the reign of his predecessor, Nuri al-Maliki.

On Monday, Abadi said during his visit to Karbala, south of Baghdad, “We began with the great whales in the fight against the corrupt, and sent a warning message to anyone gets paid unlawfully,” stressing that he would go ahead with this campaign even if it cost me my life…because corruption is not less dangerous than terrorism.
