Abadi’s Office: Government is with freedom of opinion, there are mechanisms to monitor media performance
(IraqiNews.com) On Sunday, Prime Minister’s office said that the government agrees with the principle of freedom of opinion and expression, and to provide a proper environment for media workersto gain access to information and freedom to publish, explaining that there are mechanisms certified by independent entities to monitor the media performance.
Spokesman for the Office of the Prime Minister Saad al-Hadithi said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “The government headed by Haider al-Abadi emphasizes on the principle of freedom of opinion and expression, and to provide a convenient environment media workers to gain access to information and freedom to publish,” adding that, “It at the same time stresses that the media should has comprehension to the imperatives of the current phase and considerations of national interest, and not to broadcast division and sectarian messages between different components of Iraqi people.”
He added, “The government agrees with respect to freedom of opinion and expression, and is working to provide all proper atmospheres to achieve this freedom, and it urges all media to direct constructive criticism that contributes to strengthening the capacity of Iraq in building its security and military system and strengthening civil institutions,” pointing out that, “The government hopes that it will not be the means to sow discord and division among Iraqis.”
