Abdul Mahdi says Iraq strives to repatriate all displaced people soon
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi on Monday stressed his country’s keenness on ensuring a safe return of all the displaced people to their homes as soon as possible.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with Chairman of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer and the accompanying delegation, Alghad Press news website quoted Abdul Mahdi’s media office as saying in a statement.
The meeting tackled the humanitarian situation in Iraq and how to alleviate the suffering of the Iraqi people after the country’s war against Islamic State.
The two sides stressed the importance of “providing every possible effort to support the ICRC’s work in Iraq.”
“The government is keen on ensuring a safe return of all the displaced people to their homes and providing them with all basic needs, including health services and education,” the prime minister said.
He also reiterated the need for solving issues related to the missing people and defendants pursuant to law.
Maurer, for his part, thanked the Iraqi government for its support of ICRC in Iraq, pointing out the international community should play a role in supporting humanitarian efforts and service projects in the country.
