What happened in Mosul is because of Arab Spring, says Maliki

(IraqiNews.com) On Thursday, Vice President Nuri al-Maliki said that the fall of the city of Mosul at the hands of the ISIS organization last June, is due to Arab Spring Wind.

Maliki said in a statement released today, on the sidelines of his visit to the University of Basra, received by IraqiNews.com, “Today Iraq rises from the rubble after devastation it suffered because of Baath regime’s policies,” noting that, “Iraq has returned to the regional and international environment. We held the Arab Summit and Iraq has become effective on both the regional and the international level.”

Maliki added, “Iraq is still in the heart of the equation. It is targeted by regimes that do not believe in freedom and democracy,” adding that, “What happened in Mosul was because of the black wind that hit the region, and came under the “Arab Spring” title, resulting in many unfortunate events in Syria.”

He stressed that, “Some people are not pleased to see a strong and healthy Iraq, so the conspiracy happened after we had gone beyond the buried Baath phase, and we managed to restore security and stability and we embarked on the construction and reconstruction process.”
