Iraq appoints new migration, education ministers
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi parliament confirmed during a session held on Monday two more ministers in the government of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi.
During a parliament session, the lawmakers voted in majority for Nofal Bahaa as Minister of Migration and Displacement and Shaimaa Khalil as Minister of Education.
After today’s voting, six ministerial portfolios are still vacant in Abdul Mahdi’s government, including the vital defense and interior ministers.
In October, the parliament approved 14 ministers of Adel Abdul Mahdi’s government, allowing him to become prime minister.
Lawmakers were planned to vote on the remaining ministers last month but the vote was delayed due to political disagreements over nominees.
The new government will be tasked with rebuilding much of the country after a devastating war against Islamic State and solving acute economic problems, which promoted angry protesters to stage rallies nationwide, particularly in Basra, over power and water shortages.
