 Iraq, Canada discuss bilateral relations, reconstruction of Iraqi territory

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohamed al-Halbousi meets Canadian Ambassador to Iraq Paul Gibbard on Thursday.

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohamed al-Halbousi discussed on Thursday with Canadian Ambassador to Iraq Paul Gibbard means of promoting relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two sides probed efforts exerted by the Canadian government in support of security and stability in Iraq, Halbousi’s media office said in a statement, a copy of which was received by Alghad Press.

They also reviewed the Canadian government’s contribution to the reconstruction of Iraqi territory recently liberated from Islamic State, as well as the return of the displaced families to their homes.

Halbousi stressed the important role played by the U.S.-led international coalition and NATO to eradicate terrorism in the country and provide necessary intelligence and technical support for Iraqi forces.

For his part, Gibbard expressed his country’s keenness on strengthening relations with Iraq and standing by it to achieve stability and sustainable development.
