BAGHDAD (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Ali al-Hakim and Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani signed a memorandum of understanding to promote political consultations between the two sides.

Under the agreement, Iraq and the GCC states will hold regular talks on issues of mutual concern, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement.

The two officials also discussed means of promoting bilateral relations, with the Iraqi foreign minister hailing his country’s ties with the GCC states as “distinguished and strong.”

He added that the visit of the GCC chief to Iraq “contributes to bolstering bilateral relations and achieving cooperation among the regional countries.”

“The security and stability of the Gulf countries are part and parcel of Iraq’s security and stability,” al-Hakim concluded.
