Iraq sentences pair to life over rape of 5-year-old girl

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) An Iraqi court has sentenced two men to life in prison having found them guilty of the rape of a five-year-old girl, Iraqi judicial council said in a statement on Wednesday.
Spokesperson of the Supreme Judicial Council, Abdul-Sattar Beyraqdar, said Baghdad’s Karalh Court sentenced two to life for raping a five-year-old girl, having lured her away from her house towards an uninhabited building.
He said the pair took turns sexually assaulting the kid and left her at the crime’s scene.
Rape crimes in Iraq are usually punishable with death, but many families make tribal agreements with the rapists’ relatives and make get them married to the victim, or, otherwise, resort to the courts to get a verdict.
