Iraqi court sanctions confessions of Saddam-era official on assassination

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) An Iraqi court sanctioned on Tuesday the confessions of a former Iraqi official related to his involvement in the assassination of an opposition figure.
Shafaq News reported that the supreme criminal court sanctioned the confessions of a defendant who took part in the assassination of Taleb al-Suhail, a former opposition figure under late president Saddam Hussein, at the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
A statement by the Iraqi High Judicial Council said the defendant worked at the time of the murder, in 1994, as the caretaker of the Iraqi embassy in Beirut, besides serving as an intelligence officer.
The defendant, whom the statement did not name, confessed to partaking in the crime by hiding the arms used in the assassination, and gave details of the plot carried out by the former intelligence service.
