Iraqi, Kuwaiti parliament speakers discuss reconstruction, stability of Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Speaker of the Iraqi parliament Mohamed al-Halbousi discussed with his Kuwaiti counterpart Marzouq al-Ghanim how the international community could contribute to the reconstruction process of Iraq.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 140th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, which started on Saturday and will conclude on Wednesday in Qatar.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed “enhancing bilateral relations and activating parliamentary diplomacy, as well as coordinating Arab stances at international forums regarding issues of mutual concern, including the Palestinian issue and the situation in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights,” Al-Madar News website quoted Halbousi’s office as saying in a press statement.
They also probed the international community’s contribution to reconstructing Iraqi cities, which have been damaged during the country’s war against Islamic State militants, whilst shedding light on the importance of activating the outcome of an international donors conference, which was held last year in Kuwait in support of Iraq.
Halbousi invited his Kuwaiti counterpart to “participate in a parliamentary conference of the neighboring countries of Iraq, which will be held in the capital Baghdad on April 20 with the aim of supporting the stability of Iraq.”
