Iraq’s Democratic Trend in California celebrates the Iraqi Writer – Journalist, Zuheir al-Jazaery
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Democratic Trend in the U.S. State of California has celebrated on Sunday the Iraqi Writer and Journalist, Zuheir al-Jazaery, now on a visit to San-Diego , California . The celebration, held under headline “The Protest Movement in Iraq and the Role of the Media,” was opened by the Coordinator of Iraq’s National Trend in California, Writer Haider Auda, who spoke about the march of the Writer, Media Man and Editor-in-Chief of IraqiNews.com news agency, Zuheir al-Jazaery, and his creative march, both in the literature or journalistic activity, that continued for more than 30 years, in several Arab and foreign countries. Jazaery had covered the civil war in Lebanon and the Moroccan Polisario Desert War, the Iraq-Iran War and the Civil War in Sudan , through creative writing, reflected in the story, scenario and television. On his part, Jazaery spoke about the protest movement in Iraq , during different times, including the demonstrations during the Royalist Regime, 14 th July, 1958, Revolution, the era of Baath Party and till the February, 2011, through his coverage as a journalist and eyewitness. Jazaery spoke about the most outstanding participants in those demonstrations, in which he drew a map for the venues of meetings and their importance in the history of protests in Iraq , such as the dealing by the former current regimes towards those demonstrations. “The most important thing is that those protests had upturned the pyramid of the balance, as those demonstrations have imposed their agendas on the agenda of the government, before and after the 100-day period, announced by Iraq‘s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, to evaluate the activity of his cabinet ministries,” Jazaery said. Jazaery spoke in detail about the 25 th of February’s movement of the government and the demonstrators, pointing out to the role of the Civil Society Organizations, the “facebook” Youth Gathering, for which he showed a number of photos for the demonstrations, as well as the role of the Army and police. He pointed out to the role of the Media in the said demonstrations, whether in Baghdad or other Iraqi Provinces , reiterating that “the Iraqi Media had achieved a symbolic transformation in its history through its coverage of the demonstrations, despite many obstacles and official threats it had faced.” Jazaery spoke about what he described as the “New Media,” represented by the “ Mobile and the facebook Media,” and its role in breaking the obstacles, created by the authorities to hamper the media coverage of the protest movements. At the end of the celebration, two of the books authored by Jazaery in Arabic recently, carrying titles “Mountainous Papers,” and the English copy of his book “The War of the Disable,” were signed by the Author. Jazaery, an Iraqi Writer and Journalist, was born in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf in 1945, studied German Literature in Baghdad University and English Language in Cambridge University in London . He had authored and written several books, among them “The Tyrant,” “The Creation of a Commander,” “The Creation of People,” “The Frightened and the Frightener,” “The Doomsday Edge,” and “ Virtuous Cities .” SKH (FT)
