Laws not enough to counter violence against women, Premier Maliki

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Premier Nouri al-Maliki said that the laws are not enough to prevent violence against women.   In his speech on the International Day on anti-women violence, celebrated by the State Ministry for Woman Affairs, Maliki added that this phenomenon should be encountered with reform, because it threatens the society as a whole.   “We need laws to be activated , as well as education, enlighten and reform to prevent violence against women”, he confirmed.   He praised Iraqi women role in the society, particularly in scientific, cultural, media and security spheres.   He disclosed that the women has been given 100 seats in Police Academy , where they proved their efficiency and dedication.   Maliki confirmed that Iraq is facing a “strategic mission called development in all its political, economic, educational and social dimensions”, where the state shall depend upon.
