Mortar attack targets agriculture land in Iraq’s Diyala
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – Five mortar shells fell Wednesday on an agricultural land in the eastern Iraqi province of Diyala, a local source said.
Speaking to Iraqi website Almaalomah, the source said that the mortar attack targeted an agricultural land in the Mayyah village, east of Miqdadiyah, 45 km northeast of Baqubah.
“The attack left no casualties,” the source said, adding that a probe was opened to identify perpetrators.
In January 2015, Iraqi forces announced liberation of Diyala province from Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The province has seen months of fighting between Iraqi troops and IS militants especially in the Jalawla and Saadiyah areas in the province’s north and areas near the town of Muqdadiyah.
