Parliament elects Haider al-Abadi as Deputy Speaker

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday afternoon Iraq’s parliament elected the MP for the State of Law Coalition, Haider al-Abadi, to serve as the 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament after he received 188 votes.

The correspondent of IraqiNews.com in Parliament said that the members of Parliament voted this afternoon on the choice of MP Haider al-Abadi for the post of first deputy speaker.

The correspondent added that al- Abadi got 188 votes, while 76 votes were considered invalid from a total of 264 votes cast.

On Tuesday afternoon the second round of voting for the post of First Deputy Speaker after the candidates Haider Abadi and Ahmed Chalabi got converged votes in the first round, Abadi received 149 votes, and Chalabi 107 votes.
