Prime minister greets Iraqi people on occasion of Eidul Fitr
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi has offered greetings to the Iraqi people on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, scheduled to start on Tuesday.
“I would like to greet the Iraqi people, as well as the peoples of the region and the world on the occasion of Eidul Fitr,” Abdul-Mahdi said in a cable of greetings issued by his media office on Monday.
The Iraqi government declared on Sunday that Eidul Fitr holidays will start on Tuesday.
Last week, Abdul-Mahdi ordered the heavily fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad to be open for 24 hours as of the first day of Eidul Fitr.
The 10-square-kilometer area is home to several government buildings and foreign embassies.
Eidul Fitr is the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal. It marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and prayer. It is a holiday in almost all Islamic countries.
