Sadr warns of Yemeni conflict spreading to Iraq, calls Iran and Saudi Arabia for unity
(IraqiNews.com) On Sunday, cleric Moqtada al-Sadr called Iran and Saudi Arabia for unity, stressing the need not to make the people scapegoat for their leaders, while warned of the spread of the Yemeni conflict to Iraq and the region.
Sadr said during a joint press conference with House Speaker Salim al Jabouri held today in Najaf, in the presence of a number of Parliament members, attended by IraqiNews.com, “We are honored to meet with the speaker of Parliament and his accompanying delegation. The visit was fruitful; we discussed foreign and internal situations.”
Sadr called on Iran and Saudi Arabia for unity. “We refuse to let the people be scapegoated by their rulers, because the people remain and the rulers go,” he added.
He pointed to the presence of concerns about the conflict in Yemen spreading not only to Iraq, but to the entire region, and considered it “an unacceptable sectarian escalation,” and continued, “We must calm the situation and end the sectarian and political conflicts.”
