Salih meets ICRC chairman on humanitarian situation in Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi President Barham Salih has stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to provide assistance for the displaced people and refugees throughout Iraq.
The president made the remarks Sunday during a meeting with Chairman of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer and the accompanying delegation at As Salam palace in Baghdad, Alforat News quoted the Iraqi presidency as saying.
During the meeting, Salih called for removing mines and explosives from the areas, which were liberated from Islamic State, in addition to promoting humanitarian voluntary work and providing assistance for the displaced families and immigrants across Iraq, especially in the fields of health and psychological care.
He further praised the vital role played by the ICRC and similar organizations to meet the humanitarian, medical and living needs of the displaced people and those affected by terrorist attacks.
For his part, Maurer reviewed efforts exerted by the ICRC in Iraq and the services it provides to find the missing people there.
He further valued Salih’s great support for the role played by voluntary and humanitarian organizations in Iraq.
