SJC pays more than billion for lawyers in courts
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Supreme Judicial Council announced that “The total sums paid as wages for lawyers, who were appointed by the courts to represent defendants who could not hire their own lawyers, reach IQD (270) million.”
The judicial authority quoted the official spokesperson of the Supreme Judicial Council Abdul Satar al-Berqdar as saying ”The funds which were paid by the budget of the judicial authority for those lawyers, from the beginning of 2012 until end of November, reached IQD (1,273,757,500).”
”These funds were paid for lawyers who were hired by courts to represent defendants, who could not hire a lawyer, on their trials,” the statement added.
