Talabani meets with US Ambassador Jeffrey to discuss current issues
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq‘s President Jalal Talabani has received at his Baghdad Office on Monday evening the US Ambassador to Baghdad James Jeffrey, and discussed with him the efforts to settle the current problems and pacify the the circumstances in Iraq, as well as the strengthening of bilateral between Iraq and the United States, according to a Presidential statement on Tuesday. “Both sides have reaffirmed the continuation of efforts to settle the current problems and prepare the conditions in Iraq for the success of the National Conference, scheduled to be held in the near future among the different political forces in Iraq,” the statement stressed. The US Ambassador, the statement pointed out, “had highly assessed the efforts exerted by President Talabani to unite all Iraqis, expressing hope that this role would bring the political parties closer, in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution, in such a way that serves the political process in Iraq“. The statement said that both President Talabani and Ambassador Jeffrey have expressed appreciation for the return of al-Iraqiya Bloc to attend the Parliament sessions, considering the decision as “a positive step”. It confirmed that Ambassador Jeffrey had presented a “letter of congratulations from President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle and other members of his family to President Talabani and his respectful family”.
