Terrorist attack targets power transmission line in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Unidentified gunmen have blown up a high voltage pylon in al-Nahrawan neighborhood, southeast of Baghdad, causing a power outage there, the Electricity Ministry said on Monday.
“A high-voltage power transmission line in al-Nahrawan neighborhood has been out of service due to a terrorist attack,” Shafaq News quoted the ministry as saying in a statement, clarifying that unidentified gunmen planted a bomb under a pylon, causing a malfunction in the engines of the Kasibah power plant.
Electricity engineers have rushed to the site of the bomb attack in order to carry out essential maintenance work and bring the damaged pylon back to service, the statement added.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Islamic State (IS) militant group, in most cases, is responsible for attacks targeting crowded areas, including markets, cafes and mosques across Iraq.
