2 shepherds injured by bomb blast in Makhmour
ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: Two shepherds from Salah el-Din province were wounded on Friday in a landmine explosion in southeast of Makhmour, a police source said. “The two shepherds were injured in a landmine blast in al-Kouber district in southwest of Makhmour,” the source told IraqiNews.com, noting that there were rushed to the al-Kouber hospital for treatment. “One of them remains in a serious condition.” He noted. Makhmour is a disputed area between the two provinces of Arbil and Ninewa. It lies 68 km southwest of Arbil city. In its latest report regarding dispute areas, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) suggested that Makhmour should be administrated by Arbil. Arbil, also written Erbil or Irbil, is believed to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited in the world and is one of the largest cities in Iraq. The city lies eighty kilometers (fifty miles) east of Mosul. In 2005, its estimated population was 990,000 inhabitants. The city is the capital of the autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan region and the Kurdistan Regional Government Kurdistan RegionG). SH (S) 1
