Al-Qaeda assumes responsibility for Thursday’s bloodshed
BAGHDAD/ IraqiNews.com: The al-Qaeda affiliated Iraq Islamic State assumed responsibility for the series of attacks that hit different places in Iraq leading to tens killed and hundreds wounded, according to the AFP. The AFP quoted an al-Qaeda statement saying that “the Iraqi government in the Green Zone neglected our warnings to stop torturing and eliminating the Sunni sect in Iraq.” “The details and results of these attacks shall be published after being documented,” the statement added as quoted. Yesterday Iraq was rocked by blasts and exchange of gunfire that hit Baghdad, Salah al-Din, Diala, Kirkuk, Ninewa and Babel, leading to tens killed and hundreds of wounded civilians and military forces. These events denoted the fragile security situation in the country and inability to stop such operations, particularly at a time Baghdad is expected to host the Arab Summit and convene the National Conference. On the Iraqi Interior Ministry’s website, they charged al-Qaeda organization for these attacks and said “it is the most modern techniques used by terrorist Qaeda organization and its affiliated organs.” “It is a message by al-Qaeda to its followers that it continues operations in Iraq,” the site noted. Security sources said that more than 50 killings took place in 22 explosions that resulted in about 400 casualties.
