Ammo, explosives found in Wassit

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: An emergency police force on Thursday found an amount of ammunition and explosives in an agricultural area east of Kut city, a police source said. “Large amounts of ammunition and explosives were found in the forests of al-Karithiya (east of Kut) in light of intelligence tips,” the source told IraqiNews.com. “The forces seized 50 mortar shells, 60 anti-tank mines, 25 landmines and a large amount of TNT explosives,” the source explained. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy.
