Arab League voices concern over deadly protests in Iraq
Cairo (IraqiNews.com) – Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Abul Gheit expressed concern over the escalation in the Iraqi capital and other cities due to the ongoing protests.
Abul Gheit expresses his regret over the death toll among protesters and policemen, KUNA quoted a statement by the League’s General Secretariat as saying on Saturday
He also offered his deepest condolences to the victims’ families.
The Arab League chief called on the Iraqi government to take measures to deescalate the situation and hold a serious dialogue to resolve the issues that led to the breakout of protests.
Several Iraqi provinces have seen mass protests since Tuesday in response to online campaigns to express anger about the deteriorating situation in the country, topped by the lack of services, rampant corruption and high unemployment rates.
